THE ILLUSION
I was born in the year one thousand nine hundred and seventy-nine.
From eight months to five years, I lived most of the time with my grandparents.
Even though they were barely fifty, they looked old to me and I was afraid I would lose them.
I was afraid of death.
To comfort me, my grandfather used to say:
"When it comes close to our house... slowly... by the river,
I will catch it quickly in a sack and tie it so tightly, that it cannot escape!”
I remembered that on the third day of the last week of September,
when my grandmother left us for good,
eight days before her eighty-thirtieth birthday.
In 2014, Art Yourself Gallery invited 17 Romanian artists to participate in 11 group exhibitions throughout that year.
It was a daring and dynamic initiative that functioned like a structure for the 17 artists to work within.
11 exhibitions in one year was quite a commitment for both, the gallery and the artists and an extensive experiment that offered a lot of valuable information to everybody involved.
Being part of the 11172014 project helped me to better understand my creative process, my patterns, to see how I act or react under the pressure of monthly events, to experiment and to set a constant working pace… and all this while I was part of a diverse group of talented artists.
Here you can read an interview about the project.
